Utah is one of those rare places where every direction leads to a completely different adventure, which is exactly why there are so many incredible places to elope in Utah. One day you could be exchanging vows beneath towering red cliffs, and the next you could be standing beside an alpine lake, exploring winding slot canyons, or watching the sunset across the Bonneville Salt Flats.
With so many different Utah elopement locations to choose from, figuring out where to get married can be exciting and, honestly, a little overwhelming.
The good news? There isn’t one “perfect” place to elope in Utah. The best location is the one that matches the kind of experience you want to have.
Maybe you’re dreaming of hiking to a quiet overlook before sunrise. Maybe you want to celebrate with family before heading off on a Jeep adventure. Or maybe your perfect wedding day is simply watching the stars come out in the desert with your favorite person.
To help you narrow it down, I’ve rounded up some of the best places to elope in Utah, along with what makes each location different and the kinds of wedding days they work especially well for.
| If you’re dreaming of… | Consider… |
|---|---|
| Endless adventure options | Moab |
| Iconic canyon views | Zion National Park |
| Hoodoos and colorful sunrises | Bryce Canyon |
| Family-friendly overlooks | Dead Horse Point |
| Quiet desert landscapes | Capitol Reef |
| Slot canyons and hidden gems | Kanab |
| Endless white landscapes | Bonneville Salt Flats |
| Alpine lakes and mountains | Wasatch Mountains |
1. Moab: Utah’s Adventure Capital
Best for couples who want endless adventure options.
If I had to recommend just one destination for an adventurous Utah elopement, it would be Moab.
What makes Moab so special isn’t just one overlook or one famous trail. It’s the incredible variety. Within a short drive, you can exchange vows beneath towering sandstone cliffs, hike to hidden arches, explore rugged Jeep roads, paddle the Colorado River, or finish your day watching the sunset over miles of red rock before dancing beneath the stars.
One of the reasons I keep coming back is that no two wedding days ever feel the same. One couple might spend the morning hiking to Corona Arch before ending the evening beneath the Milky Way. Another might exchange vows at sunrise overlooking Canyonlands before exploring Castle Valley by Jeep.
There are endless ways to experience this landscape, and that’s what makes Moab one of my favorite places to photograph.
Perfect for couples who:
- Love hiking or off-roading
- Want dramatic desert scenery
- Dream of a full-day adventure
- Like having endless location options

2. Bryce Canyon National Park: Sunrise Above the Hoodoos
Best for couples who want a landscape unlike anywhere else.
Bryce Canyon feels almost otherworldly. Thousands of colorful hoodoos stretch across the canyon, creating one of the most unique landscapes in the country.
Sunrise is especially magical here as the first light slowly fills the canyon. Thanks to Bryce’s higher elevation, it’s also a wonderful option for summer elopements when much of southern Utah is experiencing triple-digit temperatures.
If you’re hoping for incredible scenery without committing to a strenuous hike, Bryce is an excellent choice.
3. Zion National Park: Towering Cliffs & Iconic Views
Best for couples who want iconic canyon scenery.
Few places are as recognizable as Zion National Park. Towering sandstone cliffs, emerald cottonwoods, and the winding Virgin River create one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Southwest.
Because Zion is one of the country’s busiest national parks, I almost always recommend planning a weekday or sunrise elopement if privacy is important to you.
The good news is that you don’t have to sacrifice beautiful scenery. Whether you choose one of the park’s designated ceremony locations or explore nearby public lands, there are plenty of incredible ways to experience Zion while creating a day that feels relaxed and personal.
Perfect for couples who:
- Dream of iconic red rock scenery
- Want incredible hiking opportunities
- Don’t mind an early morning start
- Love dramatic canyon views

4. Capitol Reef National Park: Utah’s Hidden Gem
Best for couples looking for fewer crowds.
Capitol Reef is one of Utah’s best-kept secrets.
You’ll still find towering cliffs, colorful rock formations, winding canyons, and incredible desert landscapes, but you’ll often share them with far fewer people than Zion or Arches.
If you’re hoping for a slower, quieter experience while still enjoying everything that makes southern Utah so spectacular, Capitol Reef deserves a spot on your list.
Perfect for couples who:
- Prefer quieter locations
- Love exploring less-traveled places
- Want dramatic scenery without the crowds
5. Dead Horse Point State Park: Big Views, Easy Access
Best for couples who want breathtaking views with family nearby.
Dead Horse Point offers some of the most breathtaking overlooks in Utah, but unlike many adventure locations, it’s also incredibly accessible.
Many overlooks require only a short walk from the parking area, making this a wonderful choice for couples inviting parents, grandparents, or young children to their ceremony.
One of my favorite things about Dead Horse Point is its flexibility. You can share your ceremony with the people who matter most, then head out to explore nearby overlooks or continue your adventure around Moab. It’s one of those rare places where you truly don’t have to choose between epic scenery and including the people you love.
The sunsets here are unforgettable, and every time I photograph a couple there, the changing light transforms the landscape into something completely different.
Perfect for couples who:
- Want to include family
- Prefer easy-to-access viewpoints
- Love canyon views
- Want to stay close to Moab

6. Kanab: The Gateway to Southern Utah Adventures
Best for couples who want to explore beyond the national parks.
If you’ve never been to Kanab, you’re in for a treat.
Rather than being one destination, Kanab is the perfect basecamp for adventure. Within an hour or two, you can explore slot canyons, towering sandstone formations, colorful sand dunes, and some of the Southwest’s most unique landscapes.
Places like Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon, White Pocket, and Wire Pass offer adventurous couples incredible alternatives to the national parks, often with fewer crowds and a much more remote feel.
If your dream wedding day involves exploring hidden places rather than checking famous landmarks off a list, Kanab is hard to beat.
Perfect for couples who:
- Love off-the-beaten-path adventures
- Want to explore slot canyons
- Prefer fewer crowds
- Like building an adventure around their wedding day
7. Bonneville Salt Flats: Endless Skies & Mirror Reflections
Best for couples who love simple, modern landscapes.
The Bonneville Salt Flats couldn’t be more different from southern Utah’s red rocks.
Instead of cliffs and canyons, you’ll find an endless white landscape stretching to the horizon.
After rain, the flats become one giant mirror, creating some of the most surreal photographs imaginable. Even on dry days, the simplicity of the landscape allows the focus to stay completely on the two of you.
8. Wasatch Mountains: Alpine Lakes & Mountain Views
Best for couples who picture mountains instead of desert.
Not every Utah elopement has to involve red rocks.
The Wasatch Mountains offer alpine lakes, evergreen forests, wildflower meadows, waterfalls, and sweeping mountain overlooks that feel worlds away from southern Utah.
If your idea of adventure involves mountain trails, crisp air, and cooler temperatures, this part of Utah is absolutely worth exploring.

How Do You Choose the Right Place?
The truth is, there isn’t one “best” place to elope in Utah.
The right location depends on how you want your wedding day to feel.
Do you picture hiking before sunrise? Watching the stars come out over the desert? Exploring by Jeep? Sharing your ceremony with family before heading off on your own adventure?
That’s one of my favorite parts of helping couples plan their day. Instead of starting with the most popular locations, we start with the experience you want to have. Once we know that, choosing the right place becomes so much easier.
