Kayli and Jake’s Shenandoah Adventure Session in Fall

Kayli and Jake love an adventure. So much of the activities they enjoy doing together revolve around the outdoors, so it only felt natural to choose a location like Shenandoah National Park in fall for their Adventure Session. They even decided to make a little camping getaway out of it, which seemed perfect!

Fall in Shenandoah

There is nothing like fall in Shenandoah National Park. It is just gorgeous, and it makes for  the perfect backdrop for any adventure session. The leaves are changing, goldenrod, asters, and wild sunflowers are on full display, and the temperature is near perfect.

Dark Hollow and Rose River Trail

I met Kayli and Jake after they set up their camp, at the Dark Hollow and Rose River trailhead on a weekday in October. It was close to peak fall foliage, and we decided during the week would be best to avoid the crowds. We made our way down the trail, and were thrilled by our luck with the weather. It was the dreamiest fall day. Like most trails in Shenandoah, this one descended straight down to the falls, so we knew we would be climbing straight up on our return. We stopped at Dark Hollow Falls for some photographs, and then continued onto Rose River Falls Loop. This trail is nice because the further you go, the more waterfalls you see, but it is also less busy.

Photos along Skyline Drive

After we finished the Dark Hollow Falls Trail hike, we decided to stop at some of my favorite overlooks along Skyline Drive. Skyline Drive is a real treasure. There are beautiful views everywhere you look, and most do not require much hiking. The fall colors were popping as the sun was setting, and we all felt so excited about the day we had just spent together. Shenandoah really is a magical place, especially in fall.
